I had the honor of participating in the PMI Global Summit 2023 in Atlanta, Georgia, alongside my esteemed PMI-NUC colleagues, Elizabeth Miller and Mayte Sivera. The experience was profoundly joyful and enlightening, with a focus on team building and networking as invaluable components.
Networking at the PMI Global Summit 2023 was of paramount importance, offering a platform to connect with like-minded professionals, exchange enriching ideas, and gain insights that continue to shape my approach to project management and my involvement with PMI Northern Utah. Networking went beyond the exchange of business cards or LinkedIn profiles; it was the art of forging meaningful relationships, expanding knowledge, and unlocking new opportunities. The connections established at the conference remain a source of enduring support and inspiration on my project management journey.
Here are the key takeaways from the Global Summit 2023:
- The Vital Importance of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI): The summit deepened my comprehension of DEI's crucial role in organizations, emphasizing its fundamental significance beyond being a mere checkbox. It is an indispensable cornerstone for organizations aiming to serve people effectively, fostering inclusivity and harnessing a diverse range of perspectives and talents. The commitment to inclusivity was vividly evident at the conference, with diverse attendees, speakers, workshops, and representation from various industries and project management methodologies.
- AI's Present Relevance: The summit revealed that AI is not a distant technology but seamlessly woven into our present. It encouraged us to embrace AI as a powerful tool for progress, rather than fearing it as a replacement for project managers. The summit advocated empowering project managers through AI integration, allowing them to lead innovation and enhance efficiency.
- The Concept of Change Enthusiasts: The introduction of "change enthusiasts" marked a significant turning point. These individuals passionately embrace and catalyze change in personal and professional life, viewing it as a catalyst for progress and inspiring others to adapt and innovate. Change enthusiasts are instrumental in fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within organizations.
Additionally, PMI has expanded its focus on Project Management Offices (PMOs) and welcomed the PMO Global Alliance into its family. This development reflects PMI's dedication to enhancing PMO support within the project management community.
In summary, the PMI Global Summit 2023 emphasized networking, shared key insights on DEI, AI, and change enthusiasts, and highlighted PMI's commitment to supporting PMOs through its partnership with the PMO Global Alliance. The event reignited passion for project management and continuous improvement, and I eagerly look forward to the next PMI Global Summit Conference in Los Angeles, where we can collectively pursue excellence and innovation in the world of project management.
