When Did You Get Your Start In Project Management

Visit project management related forums, like those found on Projectmanagement.com, Reddit, and Quora, and you can find a lot of questions about how to get started in project management. To kick off a deeper dive into PM-related career paths, we're starting with a question - when did you get your start in project management. Out of 169 responses to this question, here are the results:
- 9.5% - 16 started their project management career before finishing college
- 22.5% - 38 started shortly after graduating college, with no formal project management experience
- 57% - 97 made the transition after working in a different field
- 11% - 18 selected 'other'
Granted, this was a last-minute unscientific poll that does not contain a large enough sample size to be statistically significant. It's just intended to provide quick insight into what the next generation of project managers can expect.
